Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Jennifer Vitalia is an Italian-American fine artist, body painter, photographer, and free-standing sculptor. Her art background traces back to her youth, when she spent time learning to draw freehand under the guidance of her grandmother, who was an art teacher. As Jennifer got older, she moved on to major in Marketing, Art and Graphic Design, and Photography, with a minor in Visual Arts. From then on, she has lived life as an artist, and she wouldn’t have it any other way!
“Art is my life – always has been and always will be,” Jennifer proclaims. “It is an addiction I refuse to give up. I yearn for the paintbrush and creative photography as if it were air. It is that important to me.”
Armed with several paintbrushes, colored acrylics, oils, spray-cans, body paints, and large canvases, Jennifer began painting in an abstract style. She felt compelled to chase the visual forms of emotion, believing in more depth of experience, rather than just producing an obvious interpretation. Her techniques of employing a “no rules” attitude, blending degrees of colors, varying the pressure of her brush strokes, incorporating few written words, and creating visual forms that are both existent and imaginative, seem to come together in breathtaking pieces that hold you in front of the canvas, fascinating your eyes and inspiring your thoughts. Though predominately painting in the abstract and avant-garde styles, Jennifer Vitalia also works her ideas into the art of body painting and photography, where she turns the human form into a moving canvas of expression and idea. Her camera work primarily focuses on highlighting specific colors and positioning forms to produce striking abstract and vocal messages. “I try not to think, but rather be elusive to my own mind. I want my emotions to guide my creations, not what I’ve been taught to think.”
Jennifer Vitalia’s contributions to the art of painting, body painting, and photography have grown over the years. Her work has made her a featured artist in a host of venues: 2009/2010 Fashion Weeks in NYC; 2009/2010 Latin Mixx Awards Showcased Artwork; Artshows in NYC; books such as International Contemporary Masters 2010 and 2011, Contemporary Artist 2011, Fine Art Magazine 2010, ArtHamptons; websites such as FineArtMagazine.com, ArtMine.com, AskMen.com, Maxim.com, Aol.com, ThisIs50.com; 2010 American Breast Cancer Society Benefit; New Years Eve Body Painting at Trump Plaza; “Silhouettes & Sounds” Cancer Benefit; “Rock the Block” America’s Next Top Model Art Event; and the Chelsea Art Directory. She is also the Creator and Editor of EVERYTHING IS ART, an international magazine for the working artist.
Aside from those events, Jennifer has been hired to do advertisement pieces for G-Unit, MTV and MTV3, Rewash Jeans’ National Ad, Rolowear, Blood Line Fresh Classic, Mynt Clothing, R3 Ventures, Deko Lounge, Steve Angello (Top 100 DJ Swedish House Mafia), DJ Chris Bachman (103.5 KTU), DJ Toro and Lil Cee (92.3), DJ Mike Bugout, and DJ Flash. Jennifer has also designed personalized paintings for celebs such as actor/recording artist Ice-T and his wife CoCo, P.Diddy, Rosa Acosta, Vida Guerra, poet Rafael Casal, as well as Olivia and Jackie from the cast of Jerseylicious, and many other celebrities.
While keeping a busy schedule for both clients and personal work, Jennifer opened a studio in the Arts District of Rahway, New Jersey, where she hosted all three mediums of her artwork. She lives by a quote from the poet Rafael Casal, “My path is the scribble of a brush, I’m the paint, let my map hit the canvas, I can’t leave it blank.”
ARTIST STATEMENT
“IF I CANNOT LIVE WHERE THE EVERYDAY THOUGHT IS DIFFERENT, THEN I HAVE TO PAINT IT. SHOW ME THE UNSEEN. THE UNEXPECTED. LET ME GET LOST IN A ROOM OF PAINT AND BLANK CANVAS, AND I WILL CREATE A WORLD WHERE ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. EACH OF MY PAINTINGS, WHETHER IT BE ON CANVAS OR ON PEOPLE, STOPS TIME FOR ONLY A SECOND AND ALLOWS THE MIND TO BE FREE.”
